Abstract: This study explores the perceived effects of Ai on journalism ethics in Nigeria, employing a cross-sectional survey research method. The theoretical framework is based on the Social Responsibility Theory, which emphasizes the media’s duty to uphold ethical standards and serve the public interest. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire distributed to 200 journalists through the NUJ secretariat Port-Harcourt. The questionnaire assessed perceptions of Ai-generated content, its influence on journalistic integrity, and ethical challenges posed. Data collection involved both online and physical distribution to ensure a diverse and representative sample. Descriptive statistics, including frequencies, percentages were used to analyze the data. Major findings indicate that while Ai-generated content is seen as a tool for efficiency, it raises significant ethical concerns, such as accuracy and accountability. Respondents expressed apprehension about the diminishing human element in news production and the risk of disseminating misinformation. Recommendations include the development of clear ethical guidelines for Ai usage in journalism, continuous training for journalists on Ai technologies, and the establishment of regulatory bodies to monitor and enforce ethical standards.
