ABSTRACT: The research investigated the influence of Ai tools on academic performance of ABUJA students. The research was anchored on Technological Determinism Theory. The study used a cross-sectional survey research method while questionnaire was used as data collection instrument. Taro Yamani formula was used to derive 390 respondents who were further selected using a cluster sampling technique across the departments. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage method) and the data were presented with the aid of tables. The result found that majority of respondents, about 80%, reported relying on ChatGPT extensively for their writing work, particularly for assignments and research papers. Furthermore, every participant acknowledged that the use of ChatGPT is contributing over-dependence for all form of school work including for examinations. The research recommended that there is need to explore the development of policies and guidelines at institutional levels regarding the use of AI tools like ChatGPT in academic settings particularly the current policies.
