INFLUENCE OF RATING OF SATELLITE TELEVISION ON VIEWERSHIP

The study assessed the rating of satellite television on viewerships. The study was anchored on Cultural Imperialism Theory, Cultivation Theory the Uses and Gratifications Theory. Survey research method was used and questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. Multistage random sampling technique was used to select 90 respondents in Ilorin South Local Government. The data collected were analysed using frequency and percentage method. Findings in the study show that majority of the respondents have access to satellite television network in their respective locations and satellite television is one of the most used among the people in Ilorin South Local Government. This part is due emergence in technology which are on the growth on a daily basis. It is recommended that providers of satellite television network should improve on the system, especially in the areas of reception, signal and audiovisual quality while more decent programmes/contents based on the need of the people should be introduced on the DSTV, GOTV, Startimes and other satellite television networks.
