EVALUATING THE IMPACT OF DIGITIZATION ON BROADCAST MEDIA IN NIGERIA

ABSTRACT: This study’s goal was to evaluate the impact of digitization on broadcast media in Nigeria. In the history of broadcasting in Nigeria and the rest of the globe, particularly in the twenty-first century, digitization of broadcasting is without a doubt a unique era. Diffusion of Innovation Theory and Technological Determinism Theory were theories that gave this study the necessary footing. A survey research method was employed. Additionally, questionnaires were distributed to the (respondents) Osun State’s journalists that were selected with the use of incidental sampling technique. The data collected were analyzed using frequency and percentage. One of the primary conclusions of the study was that the audience’s access to various channels was a sign of broadcasting’s digitalization. According to research, the majority of people could only access one or two channels prior to the advent of digitalization. However, thanks to services like DSTV, StarTime, GOTV, and others, even in remote locations, people can now access more than 70 channels, both local and foreign, using an indoor decoder or a satellite dish. Given the benefits of digitalization, the study advises the media establishment to abandon analog broadcasting, which has been in use for many years.
