ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to determine the impact of social media on news production in Nigeria with a focus on journalists within Lagos metropolis. The study was anchored on Technological Determinism Theory. Quantitative research design was used in which cross-sectional survey method was adopted while the data collection instrument was questionnaire. Respondents were drawn from journalists in Lagos metropolis in Lagos State, using accidental sampling technique. The data were analysed in descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage) The research finding showed that social media have enhanced the productivity of journalists in Lagos state and a great number of journalists use them to source for news among other things. Hence, it was recommended usage of social media should be done with caution as more fake are traded on the platforms while journalists need to double check information on social media.
