ABSTRACT: This research’s objective was to evaluate television as an agent of social change among residents of Ajeromi Ifelodun local government area of Lagos state. The maintenance of culture, values, conventions, and other forms of socialization are essential to human society, and radio and television are two of the simplest and most successful mass media outlets by which to accomplish this. Especially now that people rely on mass media for messages, education, and information as an agenda setter, mass media, especially radio and television, has been a major agent of mobilization, socialization, and tools for social change. The theory that led support for this study was Development Media Theory. A survey research method was adopted in this study. Questionnaire was used to elicit responses from respondents while accidental sampling technique was adopted. The data were analyzed in descriptive statistics i.e frequency and percentage. The analysis reveals that at least many residents in Ajeromi Ifelodun local government have access to at least 4 TV channels. More respondents strongly concurred that NTA has socialized, educated, and mobilized them at least once. The government should create laws and rules that will enable NTA to perform successfully without government obstruction, and journalists should receive training and retraining on the social responsibility role that is expected of them.
