ABSTRACT: The main objective of this study was to investigate the role of television in national development, the study focused on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). It is widely acknowledged that television is one of the tools for promoting social and societal development, ensuring its continuation and realization through programmes that provide informative, enlightenment, amusement, and educational opportunities. There is no doubting that in all civilizations, television remains an excellent medium for fostering social change. Development Media Theory was used to give this study the required footing. This study used a cross-sectional survey research method as well as questionnaire as data collection instrument. The data collected were analyzed in frequency and percentage method. According to the result, findings indicated that radio and television are the most channels of communication in developing a society and by extension the country. This study recommended that television media managers need to make sure that they create programmes that encourage national interaction and development.
