ABSTRACT: The research examined the Internet competency among students of tertiary institutions in Nigeria with a particular reference to University of Lagos and Lagos State Polytechnic, Lagos. The study was anchored on Technological Determinism Theory. A survey research method was adopted coupled with questionnaire that was used to elicit responses from respondents who were drawn among the selected higher institutions using a accidental sampling technique. However, the data collected were analyzed and interpreted using descriptive statistics (Frequency and percentage method). Finding showed that majority of respondents were internet competent as search internet for assignments, thesis and other researches. Minority of them equally login to their social media accounts often. It was recommended that every tertiary institution should make ICT or computer a compulsory course while there should be a provision for a wireless facility on campus to enable access to the internet while students are expected to use the internet for gain and not for vices.
