ROLE OF RADIO IN MOBILIZING ELECTORATE FOR ELECTION

ABSTRACT: The study examined the role of radio in mobilizing electorate for the General Elections with a particular focus on Ogbia Local Government of Balyesa. The study was anchored on Democratic Participant Theory was used. The quantitative research design was used in which cross-sectional survey method was adopted while the data collection instrument was a questionnaire to elicit responses from respondents. The data were analysed in frequency and percentage method. Finding showed that majority of respondents claimed that radio Influence their voting Patterns through political advertising, and political campaigns. The research recommended that journalists should see their role in a community, especially during an election as vital which they must not toy with while government should provide more freedom and security for the press to act without fair or favour.
